Its balanced demeanor through challenging sequences of corners is exceptional, and it confidently deploys its considerable power on corner exit. While the steering might not be overflowing with tactile feedback, it is remarkably quick and direct. When combined with an agile and grippy front end, the overall impression is of a car that feels significantly lighter and more nimble than its on-paper specifications might indicate.

The optional $10,000 carbon-ceramic brakes are a testament to the car’s racing lineage. They demand a substantial application of pedal force to achieve maximum deceleration, a characteristic that is perfectly suited for aggressive driving on open roads. However, this requires a period of adjustment for smoother, more measured driving on city streets. My specific test vehicle was also equipped with a $2,300 electronic limited-slip differential and a $5,500 set of lightweight, forged 20-inch wheels, further enhancing its performance envelope.

The interior of the MC20 Cielo builds upon the significant strides in quality and refinement that were evident in the original MC20. It excels in the critical areas: breathtaking style, exhilarating performance, and an utterly thrilling driving experience. However, given its substantial price tag, the relative conventionality of its V6 powertrain becomes a more pronounced consideration, especially when contrasting it with competitors who are pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation with advanced hybrid and electric powertrains. Furthermore, certain aspects of the interior technology, while functional, lack the seamless integration found in comparable vehicles.

Despite these minor criticisms, the MC20 represents precisely the kind of halo vehicle that Maserati should be championing. Exquisite, six-figure automobiles like the MC20 Cielo and the recently unveiled GranTurismo provide the Italian brand with a crucial platform to showcase its engineering prowess and design heritage. Thankfully, Maserati appears to be leaving behind the missteps of more mass-market-oriented vehicles from the past, such as the Ghibli.
